Here are some things to keep in mind when submitting photos to For Keeps Design.
1.
Resolution: For printing purposes, it is best not to resize your photos. If necessary, we can scale the picture(s) down for you, but pictures that have been scaled down can appear grainy when printed in a larger format. (Example: If you have resized your picture to a 4x6 size, do not expect it to look sharp if enlarged to a 5x7)
2.
Cropping: Cropping can make or break a picture. When cropping, strive to focus on the main subject by eliminating distracting parts, improve composition by arranging your subjects in a way that is pleasing to the eye and make it interesting. Be creative! Don’t be afraid to crop a picture in an asymmetrical or unique way. Just take a look at some of the photos in our designs for inspiration.
3.
Color versus Black and White: Some of our designs look better with black and white photography. If you would like for us to turn a full color picture into black and white or sepia, please indicate this in the Additional Comments or Instructions box at the time of your order.
4.
Lighting: Make sure that your photo is taken in the right amount of light. An insufficient amount of light in your photograph or too much light behind your subjects can create unwanted shadows. Take your photos in natural light if possible, which provides the most eye-catching results. Natural light is best at sunrise and at dusk. If you don’t have enough natural light, make sure that the area is well lit.
5.
Composition: This goes hand-in-hand with cropping. First, you must understand the "rule of thirds." As you look through your camera's viewfinder, imagine there are lines dividing the image into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, essentially dividing your image into nine equal-shaped blocks. Frame your subject at one of the intersection points instead of in the center of the viewfinder. That’s not to say that you can’t have a great picture if it is perfectly centered, but you will find that your photo will be more interesting to the viewer if you follow the rule of thirds.
6.
Format: Please send us your pictures in one of the following formats: .jpeg or .tiff.
7.
Photo Use: Make sure you are the rightful owner of the picture. If the photograph is taken by a professional photographer you must get permission to reprint the photo. Any photos containing inappropriate or harmful content are prohibited. When you submit/upload an image/photo to For Keeps Design, you agree that you are the rightful owner of the picture and assume full liability and responsibility for attaining any copyright permissions required by the owner of the photograph.
